Will it work for me in Nepal?

Doubts about effectiveness and cultural fit are normal. Here is how we work — and what your first session looks like.

Evidence-based approaches

CBT, DBT-informed work, ACT, trauma-focused and compassion-focused therapy — matched to your goals.

Nepal & diaspora

In-person sessions in Kathmandu and secure online therapy across Nepal and internationally.

Culturally aware care

We respect family, culture, and context — therapy is tailored, not a one-size-fits-all manual.

No diagnosis required to begin

You can start with how you feel today. If a label helps, we work with that; if not, we focus on relief and functioning.

Led by experienced psychologists

Our psychologists — including Damber Raj Bhatta (MA, Clinical Psychology · PhD candidate) and Shrijana Ghimire — bring years of experience in Nepal, integrating CBT, DBT-informed work, ACT, and trauma-focused approaches. Internationally trained · APA-aligned ethics · Online & in-person

Finally I got diagnosed with ADHD after years. I have been getting treatment of anxiety which never cured my anxiety rather I got worse during last few years. Thanks to Bhatta sir who diagnosed and showed me a path to heal, I know it will take time but I am relieved to know, no more self criticism. Thank you again.

Common questions

Grouped by what visitors usually ask first. See all FAQs →

Starting without a diagnosis

  • No. Many clients start because they feel overwhelmed, stuck, or in pain — not because they have a formal diagnosis. Your therapist will help clarify patterns in session.

  • Use Find your therapy path or book a short clarity call. You do not need the right words — showing up is enough.

Choosing therapy & fit

  • See our Find your therapy path page, or the therapy approach section on the homepage (CBT, DBT-informed, trauma-focused, couples). We align approach to your goals at the first session.

  • Yes. We integrate evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT-informed skills, ACT, mindfulness, and trauma-focused work.

  • Book a free 10-minute clarity call, or use Find your therapy path to compare individual, couples, teen, trauma, ADHD, and professional support.

Effectiveness & Nepal context

  • Our team works in Nepal with clients locally and abroad. Sessions account for culture, family dynamics, and language preferences (English and Nepali) — online or in person in Kathmandu.

  • Progress is discussed openly in session — feeling heard, calmer, and clearer on next steps are common early signs. We adjust pace and approach together.

International & cross-border

  • Yes. Many expats attend in person in English. See Therapy for international clients for ethics, format, and how to start without pressure.

  • Many clients attend secure video sessions from the US, UK, Europe, Australia, and the diaspora. We explain cross-border limits and confidentiality clearly so you can decide if our practice fits you.

  • Our psychologists practice from Nepal under Nepali professional standards and APA-aligned ethics. We do not claim licensure in your home jurisdiction. A clarity call can help you weigh this against local options.

Parents & teens

  • Adolescent psychotherapy is for ages 14–17. Young adults 18+ are usually seen under individual psychotherapy. Children under 14 are not treated here — please contact Kanti Children’s Hospital pediatric psychiatric OPD.

  • Home and school support matter, but repeated lectures or discipline without change may mean underlying anxiety, depression, ADHD, or trauma. School refusal, sleep disruption, and withdrawal for weeks are valid reasons to seek help. See our teen page parent guide.

  • Late sleep, missed homework, and school avoidance are often anxiety, depression, ADHD, or burnout — not laziness. A psychologist can help assess patterns without blaming your teen.

Practical & booking

  • Yes. Many clients attend secure video sessions from anywhere in Nepal and internationally (US, UK, Australia, Europe, and the diaspora). See Therapy for international clients for expat and cross-border details.

  • Use Start intake — a short request form. Prefer to talk first? WhatsApp or call for a 10-minute clarity conversation. We confirm time, format, and fees before your first full session.

  • No. If you are in crisis in Nepal, call the TUTH Helpline at 1166 (24/7). Otherwise contact local emergency services or a crisis line in your country.
